Financial requirement. Evidence of a student loan

To be granted a Student Visa in the UK, you must be awarded 70 points in total, 10 of which for meeting the Financial requirement.

You will meet the financial requirement if you provide evidence of a student loan provided by a government, or by a government sponsored student loan company, or by an academic or educational loans scheme which is provided by a financial institution regulated for the purpose of issuing student loans by either the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) or the Prudential Regulation Authority (PRA) or, in the case of an overseas loan, the official regulatory body for purpose of issuing student loans in the country the institution is in and where the money is held.

You will have to show evidence of the student loan by providing a student loan letter from the lender which must be dated no more than 6 months before the date of application.

The letter must confirm the loan is a student loan provided to you by either the relevant government or a government sponsored student loan company or an academic or educational loans scheme.

The letter must confirm there are no conditions on release of the loan funds other than a successful application to study in the UK as a Student.

The amount of the loan must also be confirmed.

The letter must confirm that the loan is to you and that the funds will be available to you or paid directly to the student sponsor before you travel to the UK, with any living cost portion of the loan being made available to you by the time you arrive in the UK. Alternatively, if the loan is provided by your national government, the letter may confirm that the funds will be available before you begin your course.

The letter must also confirm that the lender is a government, or a government sponsored student loan company, or an academic or educational loans scheme which is provided by a financial institution regulated for the purpose of issuing student loans by either the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) or the Prudential Regulation Authority (PRA) or, in the case of an overseas loan, the official regulatory body for purpose of issuing student loans in the country the institution is in and where the money is held.

Nationals of some countries do not need to show that they meet the financial requirement. Check whether you are one of those exempt. But remember that even if you do not need to provide evidence that you meet the financial requirement with the application, such evidence may still be required by the decision maker.
